The Pirate Ship Hispaniola
The Ship
As of just a few months ago, we became the owners of the pirate ship the “Hispaniola”. The acquisition
was from the French movie / company (20 mill. Euro) “Treasure Island”, which will be released in the summer
of 2007. The film was cast in the waters around Phuket and Krabi. The ship is an exact copy of the original 1600 century
pirate ship of the same name and it was built here in Thailand.
The ship was blown up in the last scene and therefore requires a lot of repair for making it to a high class restaurant
in Phuket with entertainment, which is our basic idea. Another option is to make the pirate ship a center of a theme park.
We have all the rights to the ship including movie props such as canon guns, clothes etc.
In the contract with the film company it is also agreed that the location in Phuket is going to be mentioned at the end
of the movie. The movie is already sold to 40 countries and the ship’s present location will be mentioned in press
releases to many European magazines.
Investment
The construction cost for the ship was over 12 million Baht, excluding movie props. Our estimates is around 10 million
Baht to put it into a “ship shape” restaurant with the strengthening of the deck, new masts, new sails
and tacks, kitchen, toilets, chairs, tables etc and secure a land deal.
The time estimated to complete the renovations has been calculated to be 2 months.
We have investigated in detail one other pirate ship restaurant built for the “Tivoli” Entertainment
Park in Copenhagen, which is a great success.
The “Hispaniola” is a 35 meter vessel, while the “Danish Frigate” is only 25 meter.
The repairing and construction cost of the Hispaniola” compared to the “Danish Frigate”
restaurant ship, will be a fraction of their construction cost, which was 35 mill. DDK.( ca. 210 mill. THB)
Our calculation is that we can accommodate 100 – 120 persons at one time.
Location
The ship is now located in a ship yard close to Phuket town.
At this point are we looking for a good location to place the ship, preferably in the Kata-Karon or Patong area. Another
alternative is near Chalong Bay, but we prefer the former.
Phuket are expecting to have 3.7 million visitors in the coming year, most of them from Europe. The high season duration
in Phuket is 6 months.
Sponsoring
It is our intension to reach out to potential sponsors, before the movie is released to the international market, both
as an ongoing business and as a one time opportunity to market products. We can advertise your brand name in the sails, video
clips, special promotion campaigns, performances etc.
